Marc Methot buries Alex DeBrincat on Monday.

Marc Methot doesn't like what he's seeing out of Alex DeBrincat.

The Ottawa Senators are coming off of a very bad weekend, one in which they gave up considerable ground when it comes to their hope of sneaking into the Stanley Cup playoffs this season.

While there are no doubt a number of factors to point to as to why the Senators failed to deliver, and quite frankly looked flat, in what should have been the most important games of the season, former Ottawa Senator Marc Methot is honing in on one player in particular.

Methot was responding to a tweet that highlighted the fact that DeBrincat has only produced 4 even-strength goals over the course of 30 regular season games in 2023, when he buried the Senators forward's performance. Not only did Methot take a shot at DeBrincat though, he also mocked the alleged salary demands of the 25 year old former 2nd round draft pick.

"A player looking for anything north of 9 million dollars should be driving the line he’s playing on," said Methot on Monday. "Let’s stop pretending it’s a linemate issue."

That is about as harsh a condemnation of a player's performance as you're going to hear from a former alumni, although Methot hasn't been shy about sharing his honest opinions on social media since retiring from the National Hockey League. Methot remains an extremely well respected figure among the Senators fan base, and it seems very likely that DeBrincant will be asked to share his thoughts on these comments from the former Senators defenseman sooner rather than later.
