Earlier this week, more was revealed on the reason why TSN let go of former Ottawa Senators defenseman turned analyst Marc Methot. At first, it was said that Methot will no longer appear on TSN’s regional broadcasts and will be replaced by a rotating crew of analysts highlighted by Cheryl Pounder, Frankie Corrado, Mike Johnson, Marc Denis and Paul MacLean, with TSN’s official comment being:

“The personalities across all TSN panels can change and evolve from season to season. We’re looking forward to delivering great regional coverage of the Ottawa Senators for TSN viewers.”

However, Trevor Connors of Hockey Feed saw another reason why Methot had been laid off, and it’s since been trending, saying that his online presence and posts are behind his firing.

“He has ranted before about political correctness and “Woke Culture” on social media and a post from late last month drew some pretty significant negative attention.

Replying to a post about a pro-Palestinian protesters in downtown Ottawa, Methot replied, “I can only imagine the smell down there.’

He then went on a rant about “weird antifa people” and called out another person for being vaccinated.”

His stance on gun laws in Canada also raised eyebrows:

However, Methot did comment on his departure, saying, perhaps lying, that it was in order to focus on family ventures. His comments first went unnoticed, but are now back on trend.

“It’s all love from my end. I had a blast working with everybody there. Great people.

Now I’ll be shifting my focus on coaching my son’s team and looking after our family farm property. It was time.”

He also added: “Also, thank you everybody for the overwhelmingly positive words. You’re all awesome and more appreciated than you probably realize. I’ve read every single one of them.”

Some of his fans saw right through TSN’s decisions with one plainly calling them out:

“That’s what you get for being a conservative on social media. Canceled by weak cowards.”

Methot was a wildly popular Senator in the five seasons he played for the organization, from 2012 to 2017. An Ottawa native, it made sense to have him on the local broadcast though that meant also dealing with his conservative views and controversial opinions on important world matters.
