In case you missed the news this past weekend, a senseless, inhumane act has put the entire country of Canada into a state of shock and mourning. A gunman who posed as an RCMP officer murdered 23 people before he was killed in a shootout with the RCMP. It was the deadliest shooting spree in Canadian history and, as said, it has the whole country in a state of shock.

Boston Bruins superstar Brad Marchand, a proud Nova Scotian, issued a heartfelt statement yesterday concerning Sunday’s tragedy.

I was heartbroken to hear about the senseless tragedy in my home province, Nova Scotia. I’d like to extend my condolences to not only those who call Nova Scotia home, but all of Canada who mourn one of the worst events in Canadian history.
My heart aches for those who were impacted by such a horrific incident. As sad as I am about this tragedy, I also feel proud that our hometown first responders acted with such bravery and strength to protect our community.
There is never room in society for violence of any kind - especially during these difficult times globally. But during these uncertain times we should continue to come together now more than ever to support our friends, family and community.
I am thinking of everyone back home, you are all in my heart and my prayers!  #novascotiastrong

Fellow Scotian Sidney Crosby also issued a statement earlier in the week  through his foundation.

I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the family of constable Heidi Stevenson of Cole Harbour, and to all of the families that have lost loved ones and have been affected by this terrible act.
This tragic event has devastated communities throughout Nova Scotia, but I know we will come together and help each other get through this. I am thinking of everyone at home.

Well said, boys. RIP officer Stevenson and all the people who tragically lost their lives due to a senseless, unspeakable act by a truly vile and evil person.
