Moments like this are what the sport of hockey is all about.

On Saturday, Winnipeg Jets star Mark Scheifele woke up to the shocking news that his father, Brad Scheifele, had passed away during the night. It is a devastating moment in the life of any young man but for Scheifele and the Jets it came at a very difficult time with Game 6 just hours away and their season on the line as they faced elimination against the Dallas Stars.

There were questions about whether or not Scheifele would even be able to play given the grief he was dealing with but when the Jets arrived at the arena they did so with Scheifele in tow. The Jets star forward made the decision to play on in honor of his father, stating that his father would have wanted him to play, and boy has he ever delivered early.

It would be none other than Scheifele himself who would open the scoring in the second period, finding the back of the net in what was no doubt an incredibly emotional moment for both the man himself as well as the entire Scheifele family.

Here is a look at the replay of the goal:

That one was definitely for dad.
