The captain of the Vegas Golden Knights goes down on Sunday.
The Vegas Golden Knights may have once again lost their captain to injury.
On Sunday, during a clash between the Golden Knights and Pittsburgh Penguins, Golden Knights captain Mark Stone was injured late in the game's first period. The whole thing appeared to be a freak accident with there appearing to be very little contact between Stone and Penguins defenseman Kris Letang.
As Stone skated towards Letang, the Penguins defenseman moved to shove Stone away with a cross-check to the shoulder, nothing that you would ever suspect would lead to an injury. Stone however reacted as though he was in a good deal of pain and struggled to make his way back to the Golden Knights bench in the final moments of the first period.
Stone appeared to be favoring the arm that made contract with Letang, but given the unusual nature of this situation it's difficult to predict what type of injury he may have suffered.
Stone has unfortunately been no stranger to injury during his tenure as a member of the Golden Knights, with Stone never playing a full 82 game season despite this being his 8th season with the team. In fact coming into this game Stone had appeared in just 42 games this season despite the Golden Knights already having 59 games under their belts.
Update: Stone did not return for the second period.
