NHL legend Martin Brodeur speaks out after the passing of Ken Dryden.
The hockey world awoke to shocking news on Saturday morning after it was announced late Friday night that legendary National Hockey League goaltender Ken Dryden had passed away.
The news has come with an outpouring of love and support from around the globe with several figures both inside and outside of the sport of hockey sharing their own experiences with Dryden and the incredible life that he lived. We've already heard from Carey Price, a man who knows full well what it means to backstop for a franchise as popular as the Montreal Canadiens, and now another legendary goaltender from the past has shared his thoughts on the terrible news.
On Saturday NHL legend Martin Brodeur, who would have known all about Ken Dryden and his legendary escapades as a young man growing up in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, took to social media to make a rare statement. To the surprise of no one, Brodeur shared some lovely words about Dryden and expressed how the former Canadiens goalie had impacted his own career in the NHL.
"I always looked up to Ken Dryden," wrote Brodeur on Saturday. "He revolutionized the position and rose to the occasion in big moments. Beyond his greatness on the ice, he was a remarkable person, and the hockey community will miss him dearly. My condolences to the Dryden family."
As if to showcase just how connected he was to today's terrible news, Brodeur shared a photograph alongside his message today. That photograph, one of Ken Dryden in action, was taken by Brodeur's own father, Denis Brodeur, which gives you a pretty good idea of where Martin Brodeur got his love of hockey and goaltending from.
Here is a look at both Brodeur's message and the photograph in question:
A very classy message from the Hall of Fame goaltender and just one of thousands that have come pouring out today for Dryden.
Again my deepest condolences go out to the Dryden family and all of their loved ones.
