Mason McTavish signs multi-year deal on Saturday.

The stalemate has finally come to an end.

According to a report from National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman, the Anaheim Ducks and young forward Mason McTavish have finally come to terms on a brand new contract. Friedman reports that this will be a 6 year deal with an average annual value of $7 million per season, a total of $42 million over the full duration of the contract.

McTavish was fresh off of a career best season, one in which he recorded 22 goals and 30 assists for a total of 52 points in 76 games last season. It was an impressive outing for a young 22 year old, one made all the more impressive by the fact that McTavish played on a fairly poor Anaheim Ducks team.

There was some concern that this negotiation could carry into the regular season but, despite the hard nosed reputation of Ducks general manager Pat Verbeek, the two sides have managed to come together.

While this is a lot of money for the Ducks to give up in the present, this could become an incredibly high value contract for the team moving forward. Should the salary cap continue to skyrocket in the NHL and should McTavish continue to develop at this current pace, this could end up being a major steal on the part of the Ducks.
