Several fans are hoping something is done in Toronto as the Maple Leafs’ struggles continue to mount. Last night, they dropped their fourth straight game, falling to the Los Angeles Kings in overtime. Now I’m not saying the panic button is getting pushed, but some trade rumours are hinting at that.

Insider Darren Dreger spoke on Barn Burner that recent chatter that has picked up that the Maple Leafs could be looking to acquire defenseman Rasmus Andersson of the Calgary Flames to shock their blue line and shake up the roster. However, the trade would need to include very specific demands in order to materialize.

“If you’re Craig Conroy…you’re asking for Matthew Knies, or you’re asking for something like that; if you’re Toronto…a contract extension would have to be part of it.”

According to The Leafs Nation, leagues sources have confirmed Toronto is indeed exploring a move for Andersson.

Drafted by now Leafs GM Brad Treliving in 2015 in Calgary, Andersson is a right-shot defenseman with over 550 NHL games under his belt. He’s a pending unrestricted free agent who may not fit the Flames’ current long-term plans.

Calgary is expected to be one of the NHL’s biggest sellers at the trade deadline after a rough start, and Andersson’s name has floated in trade discussions for months.

With the Maple Leafs struggling and Calgary likely to move pieces, the potential for a blockbuster deal is there, but the specifics could make or break it. Toronto will need to weigh the cost carefully, while Calgary considers whether Andersson fits into their future plans. For now, fans can only watch and wait and any trade that shakes up either roster would certainly dominate headlines across the league.
