Edmonton Oilers’ captain Connor McDavid keeps breaking records, and it sounds like he could be working towards a new one for the history books, but this time off the ice.

According to former NHL head coach Bruce Boudreau, McDavid could set another record with his upcoming contract. As a guest on the NHL Network, Boudreau explained how he believes McDavid’s potential earnings will top Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews’ next AAV of $13.25 million, which will make Matthews the league’s highest-paid player beginning in 2024-25, surpassing Colorado Avalanche top forward Nathan MacKinnon’s $12.6 AAV. Boudreau predicts that McDavid will land an eight-year, $15 million AAV contract.

“He’ll likely be around 29. Seeing him secure an eight-year deal at $15 million wouldn’t surprise me. Just look at how quickly Erik Karlsson was surpassed after his big signing. Salaries are escalating across the board.”

If anyone were to ask McDavid about the projected numbers on his next deal, the Oilers’ captain would solely be in the number of victories Edmonton can record and how close it can get to the Stanley Cup.

Both host Jamison Coyle and Boudreau talked about Vegas Golden Knights’ Jack Eichel, who became the first player to ever win a Stanley Cup while earning over $10 million a season. They both believe that it wouldn’t be a shock to see

McDavid and teammate Leon Draisaitl on this type of money competing for a Stanley Cup. That’s what’s most important for McDavid at this point.
