The New York Islanders have finally traded right-shot defenseman Noah Dobson, hours before the first round of the NHL Draft on Friday.
According to insider Kevin Weekes, New York Islanders defenseman Noah Dobson has been traded. He is getting moved to the Montreal Canadiens, hours before the first round of the 2025 NHL Draft in Los Angeles.
The transaction also comes with an agreed upon contract extension for Dobson with the Habs, an eight-year extension carrying a $9.5M AAV as part of the trade.
There is a belief that 23-year-old Emil Heineman is part of the return, along with both MTL picks (No. 16 & No. 17) of tonight’s draft.

Latest reports had revealed that three suitors were in the mix in the St. Louis Blues, Canadiens and Columbus Blue Jackets.
The Habs are coming off a season in which they qualified for the playoffs and lost to the Washington Capitals in the first round. Dobson was said to be highly interested in playing in Montreal.
A coveted right shot defenseman, Dobson has played 388 games for the Islanders and has 230 points. His career year came in 2023-24 when he scored 10 goals and totalled 70 points.
