Back to the Future in Toronto?
The Toronto Maple are reportedly looking to its alumni to fill management roles this offseason.
TSN insider Darren Dreger reported earlier this week that the Leafs had interviewed Hall of Famer Mats Sundin for an executive position, but not for their GM position.
Now, speaking on TSN's First Up, Dreger reports that Gary Roberts is being eyed for a position with the team.
"I think (MLSE CEO Keith) Pelley and Co. are going to continue down this road of former players, highly recognized players. I've heard that Gary Roberts, who's done some terrific work around the National Hockey League... his development of the sports science platform, the continuation training for some of these top NHL stars. I mean, why wouldn't you have a conversation with a local guy like Gary Roberts?"
While I'm certain that the additions of Sundin and Roberts would be a boon for the Leafs, neither of them are fit for the GM role and that's the role that the team needs to address immediately.
