The Wild have signed Boldy long-term.
The Minnesota Wild have signed one of their top young players for the foreseeable future.
National Hockey League insider Kevin Weekes was the first to report that the Wild and forward Matt Boldy were getting close to coming to terms on a 7-year contract extension, and it now appears that Weekes was once again right on the money.
According to an official press release from the Minnesota Wild, the team and Boldy have in fact come to terms on a new 7-year contract extension, one that will be worth a whopping $49 million over the full length of the deal. That works out to an average annual value and cap hit of $7 million per season for Boldy, a deal that could look really good in a few years when the NHL's salary cap has started to rise again.
Boldy is of course a core part of the Wild's future moving forward having been selected in the first round (12th overall) of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. He has now become a fixture of the Wild's top six forward group and based on this new deal it would appear that the Wild and Wild general manager Bill Guerin envision him in that role for many years to come.
Boldy has appeared in 42 games for the Wild this season and has 12 goals and 17 assists for a total of 29 points thus far.
