Matt Martin breaks down when he realizes that his NHL career is over
The moment that the 36 veteran forward realizes it's all over.
It looks like Matt Martin will be playing his final game in front of a home crowd at UBS Arena this evening.
The 36 year old pending unrestricted free agent is unsigned past this season and with just two games left on the New York Islanders' 2024-25 season schedule, the gravity that it's all ending for Martin hit him during media availability this morning.
Martin was asked by reporters what sort of emotions he's feeling heading into what are likely his final two NHL games and that's when it all came rushing to the forefront for the big man.
Check out this touching moment caught by cameras:
Martin has suited up for the Islanders organization for 15 seasons, with just a brief two year stint with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Love him or hate him on the ice, there's no denying his passion for the game and his passion for Islanders Blue and Orange.
A feared man in the prime of his career who put up multiple 100+ PIM seasons, Martin has simply aged out of the league and is expected to announce his retirement this upcoming offseason. All the best, big man. Hold your head up high.
