Matt Rempe reacts to scoring his first NHL playoff goal.
Matt Rempe had a huge game on Sunday afternoon, scoring the biggest goal of his NHL career.
Game 1 of the Stanley Cup playoffs went about as well as you could have expected if you happen to be a fan of the New York Rangers, but perhaps no one will be more satisfied with today's result than Rangers rookie forward Matt Rempe.
After making headlines during the regular season with his fists, Rempe stepped up early in Game 1 for the Rangers when he opened up the scoring with the first goal in the series, beating Washington Capitals goaltender Charlie Lindgren.
It wasn't just the first goal of the series but it was also the first playoff goal of Rempe's National Hockey League career, and you won't have to speculate about how much it meant to him. Rempe was interviewed during the game's second intermission and he could not hope to hide the emotion on his face, with the 21 year old forward grinning from ear to ear the entire time.
When he was asked what he would remember most about the moment, Rempe's response was nothing short of adorable.
"All the guys coming and hugging me after," admitted Rempe. "That was pretty cool."
Rempe was tugging at the collar of his jersey repeatedly during the interview as the nervous energy just came pouring out of the youngster.
"It was awesome," said Rempe. "The crowd was absolutely pumping, it was electric, it was unreal."
When asked if he was enjoying himself out there, Rempe again beamed from ear to ear.
"I'm having a blast it's unreal," said an excited Rempe. "Coolest building I've ever seen so that and the playoffs it's absolutely wild in there and it's so much fun."
Not hard to see why Rempe has so quickly endeared himself to the Rangers fan base.
