New York Rangers rookie Matt Rempe has already proven this season that he can fight with the best enforcers of the National Hockey League. He looks confident and strong on the ice, despite recently getting handed a hefty suspension. But when he held an interview and spoke about his training, fans for a better understanding of why he is so confident. The The 6-foot-8 forward reveals that he trained and learned Muay Thai to get better in fights on the ice:

“I do Muay Thai,” Rempe said. “Me and my buddy started last summer with a guy out in Calgary and we do it. I love it.”

Muay Thai has its origins in Thailand and is often referred to as Thai Boxing. It incorporates fists, elbows, knees and shins for striking techniques.

Therefore, you get why Rempe is the Rangers’ top new enforcer.

Sure, the basics of Muay Thai can’t be used in a hockey fight, but I bet they have made Rempe more alert and quick when it’s time to drop the gloves. This explanation of his training is basically a scary warning to all rival clubs and their respective enforcer looking for trouble. I would not want to mess with a tall, young Rempe, who on top of his all, is a student of the art of Muay Thai.

In 13 games, Rempe has made a name for himself in the NHL with blows, hits and fists. He’s racked up one goal, one assist, 54 penalty minutes and two ejections.

Oh and let’s not forget, he knows Muay Thai.
