Matt Rempe wants one man, and he may finally get his wish this season.
New York Rangers enforcer Matt Rempe may finally get his wish.
There has been one challenge in particular that has ranked high on Rempe's list of desires at the National Hockey League level in recent years, a desire that quite frankly seemed out of reach.
During an autograph signing that took place quite some time ago now, Rempe was asked by fans who the one player he wanted to square off with was. Rempe took a few seconds to ponder the answer, as if he was going through a rolodex of names in his head, before finally responding with a single word.
"Lucic," said Rempe looking into the camera.
You can see the interaction in question below.
For a long time it looked as though Rempe would never get his wish. Lucic appeared in just 4 games for the Boston Bruins during the 2023-24 NHL regular season prior to a highly publicized and highly controversial arrest. After Lucic missed the entire 2024-25 regular season it appeared as though his NHL career might be over, but now Rempe at least has a chance to get his wish.
The St. Louis Blues signed Lucic to a professional tryout offer, and should Lucic earn an NHL contract he may finally have to go toe to toe with a much younger man who took the NHL by storm with his physical brand of play. Much like a young Milan Lucic did many years ago.
