Matthew Boldy leaves the game in pain after taking a big hit.
Horrible scene for the Wild.
This does not look good for the Minnesota Wild.
On Sunday night highly touted National Hockey League prospect Matthew Boldy suffered a significant looking injury during an American Hockey League game between the Chicago Wolves and the Iowa Wild. Boldy, who plays for the Wild, was battling for the puck behind the Wolves' net when he was taken out by a big hit along the boards.
While the hit itself was a physical one, it would appear as though the awkward angle at which Boldy fell is what actually caused the injury. Now to be clear that is only speculation at this time, however a number of observers have commented on the fact that Boldy appeared to be favoring his leg and/or ankle as he hobbled off of the ice.
First let's take a look at the replay of the hit:
Several reports have indicated that Boldy struggled to get down the tunnel and there's already some concern that this could be a relatively significant injury due to how much pain Boldy appeared to be in at the time of the injury.
If this is indeed an ankle injury it may prove to be a big cause for concern for the Minnesota Wild given what transpired earlier in the season. Boldy suffered a broken ankle during an exhibition game against the Chicago Blackhawks, one that ended his chances of starting on the NHL roster to begin the season, and you just hope that this isn't that same ankle that is once again giving him problems.
There has been a ton of hype behind the 20 year old forward since he left Boston College last year and began his professional career in the American Hockey League, and this season he was once again demonstrating why so many fans are excited to see him at the NHL level. Through just 6 games with the Iowa Wild this season Boldy already has 4 goals and 3 assists for a total of 7 points to his name.
This latest injury however may prove to be yet another setback for Boldy this season.
