Matthew Knies doesn't hold back and says what he really thinks of Mitch Marner being gone.
There is at least one member of the Toronto Maple Leafs who appears to be entirely unconcerned about the departure of former Maple Leafs star forward Mitch Marner.
Maple Leafs forward Matthew Knies recently participated in a promotional event for Tylenol and it was there that he was asked by reporters on the scene to share his thoughts on the departure of Marner. It would have been hard for Knies to express any less concern about the team losing one of their star players, with Knies seemingly more worried about the music selection in the locker room.
"Maybe a new (dressing room) DJ?," joked Knies on Saturday.
As if that wasn't enough, Knies also seemed to have no concerns about Marner's spot on the wing being filled in short order. In fact Knies seemed to view it as an opportunity for the team to work a little magic, suggesting a name that he thinks would make the spot left open by Marner a potential positive in his eyes.
"We have a lot of good players," said Knies. "(Nylander) is pretty dynamic, it wouldn’t be a bad thing at all."
Although most would probably agree that Nylander players a less complete game than Marner, he also has had 3 consecutive seasons of 40 goals or more in his last 3 seasons in the National Hockey League. You can easily see why Knies would be excited at the prospect of potentially playing alongside a player like Nylander in the future.
Knies also took the time to comment on the possibility of playing for Team USA in the upcoming Winter Olympic Games, making it clear that he wouldn't be taking anything for granted. Knies left no doubt that he believes he needs to have a strong season to cement his spot on that roster, which could be another reason that he is excited at the potential of playing alongside Nylander.
