Fans of a number of teams in the National Hockey League's Eastern Conference are finding themselves cheering for Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk on Saturday as he seems hell bent to take down the New York Islanders, and perhaps their playoff hopes along with them.

Tkachuk had an incredible opening period against the Islanders, scoring not one but two goals and doing so in spectacular fashion both times.

The first goal would come on the breakaway with Tkachuk freezing one of the best goalies in the entire league this season, beating Ilya Sorokin on the backhand.

While there was no disputing the fact that this was a pretty goal, Tkachuk's next trick would leave everyone, including Ilya Sorokin once again, completely stunned. Tkachuk would quickly recover a bouncing puck before going between the legs and beating Sorokin a second time, putting the puck top shelf in the process.

This one will definitely be going on Tkachuk's highlight reel. Wow!

A loss today for the Islanders would be a devastating blow to their playoff hopes in the Eastern Conference, with teams like the Pittsburgh Penguins, Columbus Blue Jackets, Detroit Red Wings and Ottawa Senators benefitting tremendously from an Islanders loss.

While Matthew Tkachuk and the Florida Panthers have no real hope of making the playoffs this season, if they can maintain this lead he could very well help his brother Brady Tkachuk and the Ottawa Senators secure their own path to the playoffs in the process.
