Matthew Tkachuk was the hero last night for the Florida Panthers in their 3-2 marathon win over the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Final.
With just 12.7 seconds remaining in the fourth overtime, Tkachuk broke the tie when he beat Hurricanes goalie Frederik Andersen for the win.
Tkachuk celebrated his heroics by simply leaving the ice, looking for food and sleep.
However, he did meet reporters after the contest and made an impressive statement about the Hurricanes that raised some eyebrows, but earned massive respect.
“Both teams are very team-first, and you can easily tell that.”
This was Tkachuk’s second overtime goal of the 2023 Stanley Cup playoffs. He also had the game-winner in Game 5 against the Boston Bruins on April 26 to keep the Panthers’ season alive.
He certainly knows what he is up against in this series and is probably getting some much needed rest ahead of Game 2.
