Matthews caught “recruiting” McDavid to Toronto

NHL superstars Auston Matthews and Connor McDavid have been training together at their homes in Toronto and Toronto Maple Leafs fans are doing their absolute best to draw connections between the two in the hopes that McDavid makes a jump to his hometown team

Yesterday, a popular Leafs Twitter account called LeafsPapi discovered that the Leafs' captain and the Oilers' were out to lunch together where he claims that Matthews was "recruiting" McDavid to sign with the Leafs.

It's not a secret that the Oilers have had difficulty re-signing superstar forward Leon Draisaitl and it's believed that Draisaitl's next contract will factor heavily into McDavid's future. Draisaitl is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent next offseason (July, 2025) while McDavid could hit the open market in July, 2026. 

Just imagine if Draisaitl leaves as a free agent next offseason and then McDavid bolts to join the Leafs in 2026...
