Matthews fails to pull the Lacrosse goal vs. Calgary

Only a matter of time before we get another one, right?

Two players have done it. As you know, Lacrosse-style goals in the NHL are no longer the exclusive domain of Andrei Svechnikov. The Carolina Hurricanes forward made history against the Calgary Flames on Oct. 29 with the first successful Michigan goal in the league. He repeated the feat against the Winnipeg Jets on Dec. 17.

Then, Nashville Predators’ Filip Forsberg pulled it off on Tuesday against the Edmonton Oilers.

So, it’s only a matter of time before one of the best scorers in the league nets one right?

That sure sounds like that’s what Auston Matthews of the Toronto Maple Leafs is trying to do.

On Thursday night against the Flames, who have been victim to Svechnikov, Matthews attempted the Lacrosse-style goal but ended up missing his chance.

The puck slipped on his stick and there’s no way goalie David Rittich was letting him get another chance. On top of that, the Flames and the netminder came out on top with a solid 2-1 shootout win.

How close do you think Matthews really was?

It might just be a matter of games before he can become the third player in the league to score a Lacrosse-style.
