The Buffalo Sabres have announced some terrible news,

In an official release, the Sabres have confirmed that 23 year old defenseman Mattias Samuelsson will miss the remainder of the 2023-24 season. Samuelsson is being ruled out as a result of an "upper body injury" that will require him to undergo corrective surgery to repair the damage.

This is no doubt a very frustrating situation for both Samuelsson and the Sabres, given that the young defenseman has largely been injury prone throughout his time with the Sabres. Last season Samuelsson missed a total of 27 games as a result of injury, but that was split between 5 different injuries. This season Samuelsson has already been forced to the sidelines three different times due to injury, missing a total of 6 games during that span of time.

This however represents by far the most severe injury of his NHL career thus far, and will also represent his longest stretch of games missed thus far as well.

As a result of his injury, Samuelsson's season ends at 41 games in which he had 1 goal and 6 assists for a total of 7 points.
