Tie Domi continues to hold a special place in the hearts of Toronto Maple Leafs fans as one of their beloved former players. Despite his son Max having previously played for the rival Montreal Canadiens and occasionally going so far as to tease his father's former team, Max has now become a Maple Leafs player himself, having signed a one-year contract during this offseason.

And there's one particular Leafs icon whom Domi has revealed is his biggest cheerleader - none other than former Toronto captain Mats Sundin, another beloved former teammate of the elder Domi.

"He's my No. 1 cheerleader," Domi said of Sundin.

One of the most beloved players in Toronto Maple Leafs franchise history, Mats Sundin would finish the 2007-08 NHL Season as the longest-serving non-North American-born captain in NHL history.

The 13-year Leafs forward called it a career after a brief stint with the Vancouver Canucks in 2009, retiring with 564 goals, 785 assists and 1,349 points - all good for first among Swedish forwards who played in the NHL. Of course, Sundin led the Leafs to their most recent playoff successes, helping them to within a game of the 2002 Stanley Cup Finals as well as scoring several key goals in other playoff rounds throughout the years.

Naturally, Mats Sundin's jersey number, 13, was retired by the Leafs in October of 2016, a gesture that ensures it will forever hang from the rafters at Scotiabank Arena. And now, the son of his former teammate will be playing underneath that banner this season.
