The Buffalo Sabres received quite the wake up call in the first period of their matchup against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday, a wake up call named Jake McCabe.

The Leafs came into Saturday's game against the Sabres fresh off a loss courtesy of that very same Sabres team the night before, so you knew they would be looking for a measure of revenge.

McCabe would find his outlet for revenge roughly 15 minutes into the game when he decided that Bowen Byram would become the target of his wrath. McCabe would catch Byram coming down the slot, leveling him with a huge hit that sent Byram flipping and spinning through the air.

I suspect that Byram's body flying through the air is what would prompt a response from Sabres veteran Alex Tuch, with Tuch quickly getting in McCabe's face and challenging him for the hit on the younger Byram. McCabe would not only respond to Tuch's challenge, but likely made Tuch regret ever stepping up to him in the first place.

McCabe began to swing clubbing blows at Tuch and although the first few missed the mark, when McCabe did connect the scrap between the two men came to a very quick finish. Tuch collapsed to the ice after being struck, falling flat on his back, and it was clear that he had no interest in taking things with McCabe any further.

To Tuch's credit he did bounce back to his feet and headed to the penalty box, with the Sabres also giving up a man advantage after it was all said and done.
