He looks exhausted and so broken down.

The Edmonton Oilers got absolutely shellacked on home ice tonight, losing 8-3 to the Western Conference powerhouse Dallas Stars.

The Stars improve to 14-5-4 on the season while the Oilers struggle to gain traction at 10-10-5. As you might expect in a game where you can count the score by touchdowns, goaltending is a hot topic for the losing team. Oilers netminders Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard put up absolutely horrendous statistics this evening, which has become a regular occurrence for this team.

Skinner's state line this evening: 4 goals against on 8 shots for a .500 save percentage.
Pickard's: 4 goals against on 22 shoots for a .818 save percentage

After the game captain Connor McDavid was asked about his team's goaltending performance this evening.

"Um... I really feel like goaltending is a team thing," the captain said. "Tough for our goalies to look good when the group in front of them is not playing well. I don't really care who it is, when the team in front of them is is not playing up to their standards, then it's tough for a goalie to look good. I felt bad for both of them tonight."

McDavid, who honestly sounded defeated, then reaffirmed his belief that he and his teammates can turn things around and jumpstart their season.

Something's got to give in Edmonton, right?!

Between all the rumors about Jordan Binnington and Juuse Saros and with Skinner and Pickard playing so poor, there just has to be a change coming... right? I can't believe that Stan Bowman is going to continue to watch his team lose blowout games, in large part because of goaltending. I have to believe that a move is coming between the pipes.

As for McDavid's comments, I think he's correct that the Oilers haven't been a good team in front of their netminders on most nights this season. It would be difficult for any goaltender to play behind this season's version of the Oilers. But the fact of the matter is that good goalies will lift their team up and provide them with stability so that the team can better execute. The Oilers aren't getting that from any of their goaltenders right now and it's what has held them back for years now. Time to make a deal, Stan.
