McKenna to play for a 4th NHL team this season?!

It has been quite a roller-coaster ride for veteran goalie Mike McKenna… At the start of 2019, McKenna was waived by the Vancouver Canucks, who had acquired him from the Ottawa Senators via trade a day earlier. He was claimed off waivers by the Philadelphia Flyers, his third in three days. 

While this took place more than a month away, it might not be over for McKenna, who is used to pack up his bags. 

On Thursday night on That’s Hockey, TSN’s Darren Dreger commented the situation in Edmonton with the Oilers looking to move goalie Cam Talbot and how the Flyers were talking about the possibility of acquiring him. Dreger added that the Oilers, who are looking to shed salary in order to fit under the cap space to reinsert Andrej Sekera in the lineup, could land McKenna in return in a trade for Talbot. 

The Oilers would be more than happy to shed Talbot’s salary, but we don’t know how McKenna would feel about playing for a fourth NHL team this season.  

The 35-year-old has an .89o save percentage in 35 NHL games since the start of his career and is set to become an unrestricted free agent at season’s end.

The move would make sense for the Oilers, however, you have to wonder how McKenna would feel about it… 

McKenna’s wife Rachel has been quite honest on how hard it has been on the family with all the latest changes. She explained on Twitter following his move to Philly how grateful she is to see her husband live his dream and play in the NHL, but she shared heartbreaking details on what toll is has taken on the family, especially her two young children. 

Let’s see what happens and if McKenna needs to move again…
