We may finally see a major offer sheet in the NHL.

We have some big time details coming from one of the very best insiders in the business.

TSN's Bob McKenzie made a brief appearance on Montreal's 690 radio but it was a good one, and he touched on a number of subjects and perhaps most notably was the future of young star forward Nikita Kucherov, arguably the Tampa Bay Lightning's best player in a tremendous postseason push for a Stanley Cup.

“So if ever there were a golden opportunity for somebody to come in with an offer sheet, this would be it. If you really wanted Nikita Kucherov," said McKenzie as per Nichols on Hockey. Because if the Lightning are going to match the offer sheet – boy, does it cause them enormous heartache. And Steve Yzerman is going through this all again next year. Jonathan Drouin. Ondrej Palat. Tyler Johnson. Welcome to my nightmare."

That's right, the rarely used and even more rarely completed offer sheet is a ploy that McKenzie feels could legitimately work here for the reasons he listed and as a result one that could bet a team an extremely talented youngster.

McKenzie didn't touch on what teams could be looking at an offer sheet, but it would be an extremely difficult one to match if it was on a long-term deal, and you can bet that has a number of NHL general managers seriously pondering the option of adding Kucherov to their rosters.
