A gut-wrenching message from Meredith Gaudreau on the one year anniversary of Johnny's passing.
One year ago today the lives of brother's Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau were cut far too short when they were both killed by the senseless actions of a drunk driver.
Over the last year we have seen the hockey community rally around the Gaudreau family to offer their condolences, love and support, but unfortunately for the Gaudreau family there is nothing that will ever truly erase the pain of losing their loved ones.
On Friday, Meredith, the wife of the late Johnny Gaudreau, took to Instagram to express her thoughts on the one year anniversary of her husband's passing. To say that Meredith's words were gut-wrenching would be a massive understatement.
From Meredith:
I have the best husband. One year closer to seeing you again
and being with you forever. Forever for real.
8/29/2020 we got engaged. 8/29 is a reminder of what forever means to me
I love you
Johnny and his brother Matthew were struck by a drunk driver, Sean Higgins, on August 29th of last year while they were both out riding their bikes in Oldmans Township, New Jersey. Both brothers were found dead at the scene by the time police had arrived and Higgins was subsequently arrested and jailed for his involvement in the incident. A year later he has yet to face those charges in a court of law with pre-trial motions still ongoing in this case.
Johnny and Matthew were in the area with the intent of attending a wedding for their sister Katie, one scheduled for the very next day, but that wedding was postponed as a result of the terrible tragedy that struck the Gaudreau family.
My heart goes out to Meredith and the rest of the Gaudreau family on this terrible day.
