The Canadiens top prospect shares some very bad news with Habs fans.
The Montreal Canadiens will not be adding one of the most exciting young prospects in collegiate hockey to their roster anytime soon.
In a surprising bit of news, National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman has just broken the news that Montreal Canadiens first round pick Michael Hage will not be turning pro and will instead be returning to the University of Michigan where he will spend one more season as a member of the Wolverines.
Hage and the Wolverines competed in the Frozen Four this month and were eliminated from that competition earlier this week, and I have to believe that this played a significant role in his decision today. Hage and the Wolverines will get another chance next season, and it may be that Hage feels he has unfinished business in college hockey.
Unfortunately that is a tough break for the Montreal Canadiens with the 19 year old Hage already making headlines around the National Hockey League, including just recently when he was mentioned by name by president and CEO of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, Keith Pelley.
Hage is coming off another strong season with the Wolverines, one in which he had 13 goals and 39 assists for 52 points in just 39 games this season.
Hage was selected by the Canadiens in the first round (21st overall) of the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.
