It’s been a rough offseason for New York Rangers’ Mika Zibanejad. Earlier this month, his best friend and closest teammate Chris Kreider was traded out of the Big Apple to the Anaheim Ducks. With another bold move by Rangers general manager Chris Drury, fans and pundits quickly started hinting at the possibility that other moves would be coming, and many hinted at Zibanejad being the next player out.

However, Zibanejad’s wife Irma had enough of the chatter and decided to set the record straight herself.

“We just had Mika’s new coach [Mike Sullivan] here at our home; he flew over from New York recently,” she said, according to a translated quote from Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet. “We also just got our new home in New York. I’m always shocked about how newspapers just spread things without considering the source.”

It was quite obvious that Irma Zibanejad was hinting at the purchase of a new home in New York to convey that her husband will be a Ranger on Opening Night of the 2025-26 season.

Irma Zibanejad made sure to control the narrative when it comes to her husband’s contract with five years remaining on it.

“So interesting with newspaper articles that there is zero truth in it,” Irma wrote in Swedish on her Instagram story on Monday. “Oh well. You sit here sometimes and think, ‘How did that go through?’ The rumor has been taken out of the air. It is very interesting.”

Zibanejad, who’s now become the longest-tenured Ranger after Kreider moved to Anaheim, has heard his name circulating in trade chatter the past few months and it only got louder after GM Drury made the move, aiming at changing the chemistry in the dressing room after the Rangers went from winning the Presidents’ Trophy to missing the playoffs over the past two seasons.

But if you were to ask Irma Zibanejad, she’ll tell you that her husband is in NYC to stay.
