When Mike Babcock gives you a compliment, it's because you've definitely earned it, and that's exactly the case for Jim Hiller. Hiller may not be a name Red Wings fans are very familiar with, he was hired in June of 2014 as one of Babcock's assistant coaches, but it's Hiller who Babcock credits for the team's much improved success on the power play. It's been a night and day kind of change for Detroit who was ranked 18th in the league last season converting on less then one in every 5 power play opportunities. Now under the guidance of Hiller they are converting at a rate of 25.5%, and Babcock says it's Hiller's offensive focus making the difference.
“Jim Hiller played in the NHL at one time, was a college player, was a long-time junior coach, and he’s about offense every single day,”
It's been less then a full season for Hiller, and he's got some incredible talent to work with in guys like Nyquist, Tatar, Zetterberg and more, only time will tell just how good they can be on the man advantage.
