Mike Babcock just shot down any rumors about him coaching the Edmonton Oilers, or any other NHL team for that matter.

When asked earlier today about the prospect of taking a coaching job with the Oilers, Babcock definitively told TSN insider Darren Dreger that he is retired and he has no interest in returning to the league.

From Dreger:

Babcock’s NHL coaching career was once viewed as one of the greatest of the modern era. A Stanley Cup champion with the Detroit Red Wings and Olympic gold medal winner with Team Canada, Babcock later took over a rebuilding Toronto Maple Leafs team in 2015. While he helped guide Toronto back into playoff contention, criticism surrounding his treatment of players steadily grew louder. Stories involving Mitch Marner and other former players painted Babcock as controlling and manipulative behind the scenes. Those controversies ultimately contributed to his firing in Toronto in 2019 and later destroyed his attempted comeback with the Columbus Blue Jackets before he even coached a game.

Now, it appears that Babcock is done once and for all.
