Can the Boston Bruins be stopped? The Bruins have won four in a row and are focused on ending the 2022-23 season on a high note.
If the Bruins can’t be stopped, something else will come to an end. And that’s Mike Babcock’s NHL record for most wins in the first season with a franchise with the 2005-06 Detroit Red Wings.
If Boston manages to win five of their final 12 games, Jim Montgomery will set the NHL record for most wins in the first season with a franchise, with 59.
The Bruins were the first team to clinch a berth in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and are going all in to get another championship under their belt.
I am sure Montgomery isn’t focused on passing Babcock for most wins in the first season with a franchise, but many the NHL is ready for someone to take home that record.
Babcock hasn’t coached in the league since getting a lot of heat and backlash for poor actions taken on players in Detroit and during his time with the Toronto Maple Leafs. The once the highest-paid head coach in the NHL is staying away from the league, and maybe it’s time for someone else to get his title.
Montgomery is sure close to it, and there is no sign of the Bruins slowing down in the last stretch of the calendar.
Who says Montgomery can enter the league’s record books?
