According to Commie, it all went down last night.
All abord the Mike Babcock hate-train with your chief engineer Mike Commodore!
Commodore, a former NHL defenseman who has transitioned to online troll, has been on an absolute tirade against Edmonton Oilers head coach Mike Babcock in the weeks since Babcock's hiring, but last night he took things to another level.
Commodore alleged that last night the Oilers sent him a "threatening email".
From Commodore's Twitter account last night:
Now... a couple things here:
All of this is to say that I take this allegation with a grain of salt larger than Commie's afro.
On the other hand, would I be surprised to learn that the Stan Bowman-led Oilers are trying to intimidate Commodore? Absolutely not.
What do you think? Is there merit to this? Or is this just Commie trolling again?
Commodore's post-playing career has arguably made him even more recognizable than his time on the ice. Since retiring from professional hockey, he has become one of the most outspoken personalities in the sport, thanks largely to his relentless criticism of Babcock.
Commodore's feud with Babcock dates back to their time together in the Anaheim organization before exploding years later during Commodore's lone season with the Detroit Red Wings. Commodore has repeatedly claimed that Babcock misled him during free agency by promising him a significant role, only to make him a healthy scratch for much of the season. Commodore has long argued that the experience effectively ended his NHL career, and he has never been shy about placing the blame squarely on Babcock. Babcock has denied that personal issues influenced his decisions, saying Commodore simply did not outperform the defensemen ahead of him on Detroit's depth chart.
Over the past decade, Commodore has turned that frustration into one of hockey's longest-running public feuds. Through countless social media posts, podcast appearances and interviews, he has consistently criticized Babcock's coaching style and treatment of players, often using his now-famous "#FuckBabs" slogan. His criticism gained additional attention following Babcock's firing by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2019 and again during the controversy surrounding Babcock's brief tenure with the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2023, when several former players echoed concerns about the veteran coach's management style.
Now that Babcock has returned to the NHL as head coach of the Edmonton Oilers, Commodore has once again ramped up his criticism. Within days of the hiring, he posted multiple messages on social media warning Oilers fans and parents about Babcock, while also questioning whether the coach deserved another opportunity behind an NHL bench after previous controversies. Commodore has argued that Babcock already received a second chance following his departure from Toronto and squandered it during the Columbus episode, making Edmonton's decision one of the league's most polarizing coaching hires.
Whether fans agree with Commodore or not, there is no denying that he has become one of hockey's most vocal former players. His Stanley Cup ring ensures he will always be remembered for his accomplishments on the ice, but his unwavering campaign against Mike Babcock has become just as much a part of his legacy, ensuring that every new chapter in Babcock's coaching career is met with an equally passionate response from one of his fiercest critics.
