Mike Commodore hasn’t held back when it comes to the Edmonton Oilers and their coaching staff. But his latest social media post may be his most alarming yet.

The former NHL defenseman took to X on Friday morning with a pointed message directed at families with players attending the Oilers' development camp this week. Commodore urged parents to keep a close watch on their children, claiming in his opinion that the organization recently hired "a scumbag" who is present in the building. He went further, advising parents not to leave their kids alone with the individual.

Commodore did not name anyone specifically in the post, though the timing and context strongly suggest the message is connected to his long-running campaign against Oilers head coach Mike Babcock.

The former blue liner's feud with Babcock stretches back well over a decade. Commodore has repeatedly stated that Babcock lured him to the Detroit Red Wings during free agency with promises of a significant role, only to leave him as a healthy scratch for much of the season. Commodore has long maintained that the experience derailed his NHL career. Babcock, for his part, has said the decision was purely performance-based and that Commodore simply did not earn ice time over the other defensemen on the roster.

Since retiring from professional hockey, Commodore has built a second reputation as one of the sport's most outspoken critics. His relentless public attacks on Babcock gained traction after Babcock was fired by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2019 and intensified further during the coach's brief and controversial stint with the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2023, when other former players raised similar concerns about his management style.

When Edmonton hired Babcock, Commodore wasted no time escalating his rhetoric. He posted multiple warnings to Oilers fans and parents in the days following the announcement. He also reportedly alleged that the Oilers organization sent him a "threatening email.”

It is worth noting that Commodore has acknowledged using social media in a provocative way, and some observers have questioned whether his posts are designed more for engagement than genuine alarm. None of the specific allegations implied in his latest message have been confirmed by any independent source.

Still, the post has drawn significant attention online, with reactions split between those who view Commodore as a necessary voice of accountability and those who believe he has crossed a line.
