Mike Hoffman sounds off after being re-acquired by Sharks

Earlier today, a massive three-way trade went down in the National Hockey League that saw current reigning Norris Trophy winning defenseman Erik Karlsson dealt from the San Jose Sharks to the Pittsburgh Penguins in a deal that also involved the Montreal Canadiens.

The full details of the trade are below:

Pittsburgh acquires defenseman Erik Karlsson, forward Rem Pitlick, forward Dillon Hamaliuk and San Jose's 2026 third-round draft pick.
San Jose acquires Pittsburgh's 2024 first-round draft pick (top-10 protected), forward Mikael Granlund, defenseman Jan Rutta and forward Mike Hoffman.
Montreal acquires Pittsburgh's 2025 second-round draft pick, defenseman Jeff Petry, goaltender Casey DeSmith and forward Nathan Legare.

For Hoffman, this is his second go-around with the Sharks, though his first tenure didn't last long enough for him to even make it out on the ice. Following the controversy with his fiancee Monica Caryk allegedly harassing the Karlsson family and even reportedly wishing death on their unborn child, Hoffman was traded along with Cody Donaghey and a fifth-round pick of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft to San Jose exchange for Mikkel Boedker, Julius Bergman, and a sixth-round pick in the 2020 Draft.

But just hours later, he would be on the move again as he was sent to the Florida Panthers together with a seventh-round pick of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft for a fourth-round and fifth-round pick of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft and a second-round pick of the 2019 Draft.

Earlier today, he was quick to note the irony of his having been moved to San Jose yet again, and hopes that this tenure will last a bit longer.

"I was only there maybe an hour the last time and it looks like it might be a little longer this time," he said.
