Mike Sullivan shares a big update on Kris Letang.
Sullivan on his absent defenseman.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have hit a bit of a funk coming off of the holiday break and boast a record of 2-6-2 over their last 10 games as a result. It has been a difficult time for the Penguins who have plummeted in the standings of the National Hockey League's Metropolitan Division but thankfully it sounds like help may be on the way.
On Monday, Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan offered up the first real update we've had on the status of veteran Penguins defenseman Kris Letang. Letang has of course been absent from the team since the passing of his father, a family tragedy that understandably resulted in Letang traveling back home to Montreal to be with his family.
According to Sullivan, it sounds like the Penguins and their fans can expect Letang to return to the lineup very shortly with the Pens' bench boss revealing that he expects Letang to be back with the team in the next day or so. That of course means that Letang won't be suiting up this evening when the Penguins take on the Anaheim Ducks, but it does leave open the possibility of a return for Wednesday or Friday's game, both of which will be played against the Ottawa Senators.
Letang is a hugely important part of the Penguins defense and his return will be a welcomed addition to the lineup, especially with the Penguins struggling at the moment. Prior to taking his leave of absence, Letang had 2 goals and 14 assists for a total of 16 points in 29 games this season.
