Tough news for the Rangers beloved enforcer on Monday morning.
Fans of the New York Rangers haven't had a whole lot to look forward to in the latter stages of the 2025-26 National Hockey League regular season, with a terrible situation for the Rangers placing them well out of playoff contention at this stage.
Unfortunately things got even worse for Rangers fans on Monday morning when the team announced that one of the few notable attractions they do have for fans this season is unlikely to return.
Rangers head coach Mike Sullivan met with members of the media on Monday morning ahead of his team's clash with the Ottawa Senators and it was during that media availability that Sullivan would share some bad news regarding Rangers enforcer Matt Rempe. Rempe has been out of the lineup dealing with a thumb injury, and according to Sullivan it sounds like that is how things will remain for what remains of this season.
Sullivan stopped shy of completely ruling Rempe out for the season 100%, but he did heavily imply that he does not expect to see the 23 year old forward back in the lineup before the start of next season.
Rempe appeared in a total of just 26 games for the Rangers this season, picking up 1 goal and no assists for 1 point on the season. Rempe had just 11 penalty minutes to his name over that stretch of play, by far the lowest of his NHL career so far.
