Finally some good news for Rantanen who hasn't played an NHL game in nearly 2 months.
The Dallas Stars are getting a huge boost to their lineup this weekend, although it's not exactly clear just when exactly that will occur at this time.
On Saturday, the Stars activated star forward Mikko Rantanen from injured reserve. The move signaled a return to action for Rantanen who has been sidelined by injury and has not played in the National Hockey League for the better part of 2 months. Rantanen last appeared in an NHL game on February 4th during a clash between the Stars and St. Louis Blues.
Rantanen suffered the injury not with the Stars but instead during the Winter Olympic Games in Milan, Italy. Rantanen was injured while representing his home country of Finland in a game against Canada at that tournament, suffering an injury in the third period of that game that has kept him out ever since.
Rantanen is of course a huge part of what the Stars do offensively and he was off to a terrific start this season with 20 goals and 49 assists for a total of 69 points through his first 54 games of the season.
Although the Stars have done well in his absence, there's no question that Rantanen's return will provide a significant boost to their lineup. The only question now is when Rantanen will return, with Stars head coach Glen Gulutzan leaving both Saturday and Sunday's games as a possibility.
"If not Saturday, certainly it’ll be Sunday… Or maybe both," said Gulutzan on Saturday.
