You’ll be hard pressed to find many Edmonton Oilers fans who will defend the play of forward Milan Lucic. The 30 year old pugilist, of course, signed a GIANT seven year, $42 million contract with the Oilers back in 2016 and has effectively seen his production fall off a cliff ever since.

The former 30 goal scorer and 60+ point player from his prime with the Boston Bruins has put up just six goals and 20 points this season, despite being paid $6 million annually. To make matters worse, the Oilers are tight up against the salary cap and whomever ownership decides to hire as the team’s next general manager will have their work cut out for them in sorting through the team’s contactual woes.

Having said all of that, there’s no denying to impact Lucic has had on the league throughout his career. He’s just two goals away from the 200 career goal milestone and recently hit the 500 point milestone… but judging by social media you wouldn’t know it. At least, that’s how Lucic sees it.

Canadian media giant Sportsnet sent out a Tweet last night after Lucic scored in the Oilers’ 6-2 loss to the Colorado Avalanche indicating that it was just his first goal and 17 road games. This prompted Lucic himself to fire back.

Check it out:

Fair point, Looch. But… do you think it’s wise to chirp the media after a 6-2 loss? Take the L and be the bigger man. There’s no sense getting into a war of words with the media, ESPECIALLY the notoriously difficult Edmonton media. Not a good look for the Oilers forward.
