Milan Lucic linked to the Boston Bruins at the deadline.

A reunion with his former team?

When Calgary Flames forward Milan Lucic was at his most dominant it was as a forward for the Boston Bruins during the 8 seasons he played for that franchise. Lucic was drafted by the Bruins, made his mark on the National Hockey League as a Bruin, and earned the biggest payday of his life largely off the back of the work he put in during his time with the Bruins organization, so it would be somewhat fitting if he ended his career with one final run as a member of the Bruins.

That may have nearly happened ahead of this year's NHL trade deadline, or so the rumors would have you believe. On Saturday, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman shared one of the wildest rumors I've heard surrounding the 2023 trade deadline, one that would have seen Lucic reunited with his former squad in Boston.

"The wildest one I actually heard, and it obviously didn't happen, was Lucic and Boston," revealed Elliotte Friedman on the 32 Thoughts Podcast.

Friedman admits that this was merely a rumor, but boy would it ever have been a story if Lucic were in fact to return for one final run in black and gold.

"The possibility of him going and having one last ride with the Bruins," said Friedman. "I don't know that it even happened, someone said to me they heard that rumor but I don't know that it even happened."

Obviously we won't see it this time around in the Stanley Cup playoffs with Lucic remaining under contract with the Flames. If there is an appetite from both Lucic and the Bruins to make this happened however, he will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
