Minor update on Marner & some lineup changes for the Leafs.

Sheldon Keefe mixing it up on the 2nd night of a back to back

The Toronto Maple Leafs will be making a few adjustments to their lineup this evening, although that should come as little surprise given that they are about to play the 2nd of back to back games over the weekend.

Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe indicated that there would be at least 2 changes to his lineup this evening when the Leafs take on the Winnipeg Jets at the Canada Life Center. The first and perhaps the least surprising is the decision to give 23 year old rookie goaltender Joseph Woll another start in net, giving starting goaltender Jack Campbell the night off after a busy game on Saturday night against the Minnesota Wild.

After a shaky start in his first game with the Leafs, Woll has been dynamite for the Buds. Over 3 games this season, the first 3 of his National Hockey League career, he has a very strong 1.67 goals against average and a very strong .939 save percentage and on top of that he has already picked up his first career shutout. There's little doubt that he has earned this opportunity and there's little doubt that Campbell has also earned himself some rest after a hot start to the season of his own.

The other change appears to be on the blue line this evening with Sheldon Keefe seemingly making a single swap on the back end. According to a report from Maple Leafs beat reporter Lance Hornby, defenseman Travis Dermott was spotted taking an optional skate earlier today which is very likely an indication that he is not expected to play this evening. Hornby believes that the plan is to play Timothy Liljegren in his stead, which would make it his first game in a little while.

The last time Timothy Liljegren took the ice for the Maple Leafs was back on the 26th of November when they played the San Jose Sharks, and he had a pretty solid outing in that game. Liljegren ate up 12:51 of ice time and picked up an assist as well on the night, finishing with a plus minus rating of +1. Last but not least we also got a minor update on the status of Leafs forward Mitch Marner, although there's nothing really new on that front. As expected Marner will not be in the lineup tonight, but Keefe did indicate that he was working out on the exercise bike which is hopefully a positive sign in his recovery after that unfortunate incident in practice last week.
