Miramichi Timberwolves hockey team involved in fatal bus crash.

A horrible tragedy.

A junior hockey team has been involved in a fatal bus crash in Canada.

According to breaking news report from Global News, the Miramichi Timberwolves hockey team, who are based in Miramichi, New Brunswick, was on its way to a game in Fredericton, New Brunswick when they collided with another motor vehicle.

The crash occurred sometime around 11:30 am on Highway 8 in the community of Astle, New Brunswick.

Unfortunately the crash would prove to be fatal for the driver of the car that collided with the bus. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police that are investigating the crash informed reporters that the driver had succumbed to the injuries they suffered on scene.

The bus was carrying both players and staff from the Miramichi Timberwolves hockey team but we are able to report that those that were on the bus at the time of the collision are going to be ok. A statement from the Maritime Junior Hockey League confirmed that those on the bus had only suffered limited injuries while also promising to offer counselling to those affected by the accident.

"Those on the bus sustained limited injuries and grief counsellors have been brought in," read the statement. "Further counselling and support will be offered, as requested."

"The Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) offers its condolences to the family of the victim of Sunday’s accident."

Given the fatal nature of this crash it is good to hear that these young players and the staff that oversee their development are going to have the opportunity to seek counseling, if they feel the need to do so.

As of right now however my thoughts are with the family, friends and loved ones of the person who has tragically lost their life as a result of today's accident. At the time of this writing the RCMP have not identified the driver of the vehicle and are continuing their investigation in order to properly determine what exactly caused this to occur.

"The investigation is ongoing and … the road will be closed for a little while yet," said Sgt. Andrew Griffiths of the RCMP as per Global News.
