On Monday night, Toronto Maple Leafs star forward Mitch Marner was carjacked at gunpoint. Marner was not hurt in the carjacking that took place in the city’s west end, the team said in a written statement Tuesday.

However, when it came time for the Maple Leafs to allow players to meet with reporters for the end of the season pressers, Marner was not made available.

The incident took place just 10 minutes west of the Leafs’ Scotiabank Arena. Toronto Police tweeted about a carjacking at The Queensway and Islington Ave. at 7:46 p.m., saying a man and a female in their 20’s were robbed of a Black Range Rover by three suspects with the use of two handguns as well as a knife. Marner turned the vehicle over to the thiefs and said, ‘go ahead and take it.”’

The disturbing incident occurred just 48 hours after the Maple Leafs were eliminated from the playoffs in the first round by the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Finally on Wednesday, Marner broke his silence on the carjacking incident and tweeted out on the incident. This is the statement he made:

We are glad to hear that he is doing okay and that he is getting the support he needs to move on from this frightening event.
