For weeks now the conversation around Vegas Golden Knights star forward Mitch Marner has been one about Marner rewriting the narrative on his past playoff failures, and Saturday night's Game 3 in the Stanley Cup Final was unquestionably the biggest chapter yet in Marner's brand new story.

To suggest that Marner had a historic performance in Game 3 would be an understatement as Marner now holds not 1 but 2 Stanley Cup Final records thanks in large part to an incredible second period explosion that would prove extremely important for the Golden Knights in the end.

Marner Overtakes Maurice The Rocket Richard

Establishing a Stanley Cup Final record is a pretty big deal in any circumstance, but it takes on an extra special significance when you establish that record by surpassing a true legend of the sport. Prior to Saturday night's Game 3 between the Golden Knights and Carolina Hurricanes, Richard held the fastest hat trick in Stanley Cup Final history. Richard scored all 3 goals in a very impressive 6 minutes and 21 seconds, a record that stood for decades.

Marner however would do it even faster on Saturday night with a second period hat trick that saw him record all 3 goals in just 6 minutes and 10 seconds, setting a new record that may prove very difficult to beat.

Believe it or not however that may not have been the most impressive record establish by Marner on the night, with Marner tying a record that has stood for quite literally over 100 years. Marner scored 3 goals in the second period but also added another assist, making him only the second player in NHL history to record 4 points in a single period of the Stanley Cup Final.

To find the other name you would have to travel all the way back to the 1919 Seattle Metropolitans when Frank Foyston had a 4 point period, coincidentally also in Game 3, on March 24th of that year.

When you consider the list of legendary names that have played this sport, the likes of Wayne Gretzky, Gordie Howe, Mario Lemieux, and more, it is a truly incredible accomplishment for Marner to now stand side by side with Foyston as 1 of the 2 players to have the greatest single period in Stanley Cup Final history.
