Mitch Marner's future with Maple Leafs allegedly revealed

It looks like this is the direction the team is going.

The new general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs is none other than Brad Treliving, who joins the Leafs after having served as the general manager of the Calgary Flames from 2014 until the conclusion of this season and replaces Kyle Dubas, who was terminated by the team in early May after the team lost their Round 2 Stanley Cup Playoffs series against the Florida Panthers.

And one particular question the minds of just about everyone after the news was announced was what he was planning on doing with the team's "Core 4" of forwards in John Tavares, Mitch Marner, Auston Matthews and William Nylander that former GM Kyle Dubas assembled.

Based on the comments that Treliving made, it doesn't sound as though they're going to be going anywhere - or at least, no major changes will be made just yet. But what about the long term future?

According to The Athletic, Treliving has no plans to part ways with Marner:

"All things being equal, Treliving would prefer to keep Mitch Marner, too. As he said in his introductory news conference, it’s hard to replace elite talent. You can never predict if another team will pick up the phone and make the kind of offer a GM never saw coming, but let’s put it this way: Treliving isn’t bringing Marner’s name up with teams."

Well, that appears to settle it.
