Mitch Marner buries the Hurricanes with a natural hat trick in the second period!
Vegas Golden Knights star forward Mitch Marner appears to be exorcising his playoff demons.
On Saturday night, Marner took over Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final when he recorded a natural hat trick in less than 2 periods. Marner would get a little help on the way there courtesy of a very unfortunate own-goal from Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Sean Walker.
Marner's first goal of the game was hand delivered by Walker after a no-look spin-o-rama pass from Marner that had no business leading to anything found its way into the back of the Hurricanes net.
Marner's second of the game would come off of a defensive breakdown and a turnover in the defensive zone from the Hurricanes, leaving Marner alone 1 on 1 with Frederik Andersen for the second time in the span of just a few short seconds. While Andersen had stoned Marner on the first breakaway, Marner made no mistake the second time around.
Marner would complete the natural hat trick just a few moments later when he fired off a rocket of a shot that once again beat Andersen.
Marner has of course been maligned throughout his NHL career for being unable to deliver in the biggest moments during his time with the Toronto Maple Leafs, but Marner appears to be brimming with confidence on a new team and rewriting that narrative in real time.
