The Toronto Maple Leafs got very lucky in the 2025 Stanley Cup playoffs and it actually had very little to do with what happened on the ice. The Maple Leafs knew full well that star forward Mitch Marner and his wife, Stephanie Marner, were expecting their first child during the Stanley Cup playoffs but, as is always the case with these things, it was going to prove impossible for the Maple Leafs and Marner to plan around the birth of a child.

That left both the Leafs and Marner to hope that the baby would arrive at a convenient time, and it did just that with the couple's first child being born over the weekend while the Maple Leafs were in the middle of preparing to take on the Florida Panthers in the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Marner missed no game time as a result of the birth of his child and only missed a single practice, which is of course completely understandable under the circumstances.

On Monday, Marner was back with his team and the proud new papa was absolutely beaming and seemed genuinely excited to talk about the experience of becoming a father over the weekend. Marner, who revealed his son's name is Miles Daniel Marner, gave all of the credit to his wife Stephanie for her work in bringing their young son into the world.

"My wife was an absolute beast through it all," said Marner on Monday. "I was her cheerleader. I’m a lucky guy for sure."

Marner's birthday just so happens to be May 5th, which is of course today, so this is a pretty good birthday present from his wife Stephanie if you ask me.

There really is no telling how a newborn baby might impact Marner moving forward in the Stanley Cup playoffs, but it certainly appears to have put the young man in a very good mood.
