Talk about opening up the offense.
The Toronto Maple Leafs certainly have one of the highest octane offensive attacks in the National Hockey League, featuring the likes of reigning Rocket Richard Trophy winner Auston Matthews along with Mitch Marner, William Nylander and John Tavares - all of whom are capable of racking up big time numbers.
But just imagine the kind of numbers that would be put into the stat column by them and other talented players if a certain rule was eliminated from the rulebook. How exactly would the League look if there was no longer an offsides rule? Fans have already voiced their displeasure with the often lengthy and time consuming offsides replay reviews - so why not just get rid of the rule altogether?
Just ask Marner himself, who opined that he'd like to see what like would be like in the NHL with no offsides being called.
"I THINK ALL THE RULES MAKE A LOT OF SENSE. BUT IF YOU WANTED IT TO BE A BIT CRAZY, YOU COULD DEFINITELY DO NO OFFSIDE AND HAVE IT KIND OF FREE-FLOWING AND PEOPLE CHEATING A LITTLE MORE FOR OFFENSE AND MAYBE GET THE GAMES A LITTLE MORE OFFENSIVE."
While this almost certainly would never come to pass, it wouldn't exactly be an outlandish idea to try in an exhibition or All-Star game format.
